From a menu photo to your first online order.
About half an hour to set up, or up to an hour if you type a long menu in yourself. You do not need to be good with computers. Here is every step, how long each one really takes, and what happens the first time an order comes in.
Seven steps, and two of them are optional.
These times are for a small menu and someone who has never done this before. Nothing is charged at any point, and you can stop halfway and come back later.
Create the account
Your restaurant name, your email, and a password. No card, and nothing on this page costs you anything.
- You pick your web address here, and that is the link you hand out
- Then a short setup guide walks you through the rest of this list
Get your menu in
Four ways to do it, and you can mix them. Type your food in, upload a spreadsheet, paste a link to a menu you already have online and check what we pulled out of it, or send it to us and we type it in for you, free.
- Nothing is saved until you have looked at the list yourself and pressed Import
- You can change prices, sections, options and photos any time afterwards
- Start with your ten best sellers if you want to be open today, and finish later
Set your hours and pickup times
When you take orders, and how long a customer should expect to wait. Your page opens and closes on that schedule by itself, so nobody pays for food at 2am.
- Different hours for different days, and close for a holiday without deleting anything
- You have to set these before you can open, and clearing them later leaves you open rather than quietly going dark
Say how orders reach your kitchen
A tablet by the pass, a kitchen printer, both, or email on its own. Email is in every one of them, because paper jams and an inbox has no moving parts. You cannot open without choosing, since a ticket nobody sees is a customer waiting for food nobody is making.
- Your own login always gets a copy, and you can add up to eight more inboxes
- If you pick a printer, it has to print a test ticket before you can open - pick email only if yours has not arrived yet
Connect payments
Card payments run through your own Stripe account. The money goes to your bank the way it already does, and never passes through us.
- Never used Stripe? Signing up is part of the setup guide and takes about ten minutes
- Already on Stripe? Connect the account you have and nothing about your payouts changes
- Every order on your page is paid by card at checkout, so you cannot open until this is done
Make it look like you
Your logo, a big photo, and a color. You can skip this. A plain page taking orders beats a beautiful one that is still unfinished on Friday.
- You see the real page change as you edit it, not a pretend version
- You can use your own web address later, and then that is all your customers see
Put the link where your customers already are
This is the step that decides whether any of the others were worth doing. Your Google listing, your Instagram bio, and a QR code on the table and the counter.
- Google puts an Order Online button on your listing once you add the link
- We make the QR code for you, ready to print
What happens when an order comes in.
Five things happen, start to finish. You only have to do two of them.
The customer orders and pays
On their phone, on your page. Their card is charged at checkout through your own Stripe account, so the money is in before your kitchen does anything.
The order lands on your screen
The order appears on your screen with the food, any options, their notes, the pickup time and the total. We recommend that screen is a tablet on a stand by the pass - a spare one you already have, or about $75 from Amazon. It can be the phone in your pocket instead, which costs nothing at all. It can print in the kitchen too, if you buy a printer.
You accept it and cook
Accepting confirms the pickup time. If you have run out of something you can mark it unavailable and refund just that item, leaving the rest of the order alone.
You mark it ready
Your customer gets a message and their tracking page updates. They already have the link, so they are not stood at your counter asking if it is ready.
They collect, and they are on your list
Their name and number are now on your customer list. That is the part a delivery app keeps for itself.
Yours to export any time. A delivery app never hands this over.
What to have to hand.
Four things, and you almost certainly have all four already.
Your menu
A photo of it is enough. Typing it in is quicker if it is short.
A bank account
In the restaurant's name, connected through Stripe. Same as any card machine.
Your opening hours
Just for the days you want online orders. It does not have to be every day.
About half an hour, once
You can do it in bits. Nothing has to be finished in one sitting.
Run orders on a tablet by the pass, or on the phone in your pocket.
Ask us what setup to run and the answer is always the same: a screen by the pass showing nothing but orders, with email arriving underneath it as the backup. If you already have a spare tablet or an old iPad, that is the setup - it costs you nothing and it works today.
A tablet on the counter, plus email
About $75 for the tablet and stand, bought from Amazon yourself. Already have a spare tablet? Use it, and this costs nothing.
This is the setup we recommend and the one that works best in a real kitchen: one screen that does nothing but show orders, so a ticket is never competing with somebody's texts. Email keeps arriving underneath it as the backup.
You need: A screen you can leave by the kitchen, and a plug.
Email only, on what you already own
Free. Nothing to buy, nobody to talk to.
The whole product works this way, and plenty of restaurants run on it happily. Sign up tonight, take orders in the morning, never speak to us. The catch is that an order is one notification among all the others on a phone somebody is also using for everything else.
You need: A phone, tablet or laptop you already have, and somebody watching that inbox during service.
A kitchen printer as well
You buy the printer. We do not sell them and make nothing on them.
Paper tickets on the rail, the way a kitchen already works. Email still arrives as the backup when the roll runs out.
You need: A cloud-connected receipt printer and ten minutes to pair it during setup.
It is a recommendation, not a requirement. Use a tablet you already have, or skip the screen entirely and let orders arrive as an email on the phone or laptop you already own. Both are free and both are the whole product working.
- The software is free to you. There is no monthly fee and no card to sign up. We make our money from a small service fee on the customer's bill, and the customer sees it on its own line.
- You set the whole thing up yourself. Nothing to book, nobody to wait for. The one part we do for you is the menu: send it over and we type it in, free, because that is the bit people give up on.
- What we tell everybody to do is put a screen by the pass, so orders are not competing with somebody's texts. If you have a spare tablet or an old iPad already, use that - it costs you nothing.
- If you do not have one, the tablet and stand we recommend come to about $75 from Amazon. You buy them yourself at Amazon's price. We do not sell them and make nothing on them.
- You are not forced into any of it. Orders can come to you as an email on the phone or laptop you already have. That is free too, and it is the whole thing working.
- Want tickets printing in the kitchen too? Buy a cloud printer and pair it during setup. That one is always yours to buy - we do not sell printers.
- Right now the tablet is not an app. It opens your orders page in its browser, like any website. Your own laptop or phone works the same way.
- An Android app for the tablet is coming, and it will be free. You download it onto the tablet you already have. Nothing you set up now gets thrown away.
You set it up yourself, and there is nothing to book.
- You set it up yourself, in the order the screen asks for it. There is no call to book and nobody to wait for.
- Send us your menu and we will build it for you, free. It is the longest part of setup and the one people give up on, so it is the part we do.
- Everything else takes minutes each: your hours, where orders reach you, and connecting Stripe so you get paid.
- Stuck or something is broken? Message us and a person answers. Support is the part we do not automate.
What you are not asked for
- The software costs your restaurant nothing. No monthly fee, no setup fee, no card at signup.
- No contract, no minimum number of orders, and no trial that turns into a bill.
- The customer list you build is yours. Export it whenever you like, including on the way out.
- The tablet and stand are bought by you, from Amazon, at Amazon's price. We do not resell them and make nothing on them.
- Nothing is required. A phone or laptop you already own is a complete setup, and orders arrive by email on it.
- A kitchen printer is optional and you buy that one too. Most restaurants never do.
The software is free to your restaurant. No monthly fee, no setup fee, no card to sign up, and no contract. A small service fee sits on the customer's bill at checkout, shown to them as its own line, and that is the only money we make.
Android tablet
around $50A 10-inch tablet that sits by the pass and shows new orders as they come in. It is the screen your kitchen watches during service.
See it on AmazonCounter stand
around $25An adjustable stand that holds the tablet up at the counter so nobody has to prop it against the till.
See it on AmazonFor now the tablet runs the website version - your dashboard in its browser. Nothing to install, and the same dashboard opens on any laptop or phone you already own. An Android app you can download onto the tablet is coming, and it will be free too.
Coming: the Android app
An Android app for the tablet is coming. It will be free, you will download it onto the same tablet, and it does the same job as the website does today - just quicker to open. Nothing you set up now has to be redone.
What we do for you, and what we do not do at all.
The second list is here because finding this out in week three is worse than reading it now.
- Put your menu in for you if you send it over, so you do not have to type it
- Make your QR code and the link for your Google listing
- Answer a support ticket from inside your dashboard, with your menu and orders already attached
- Delivery. This is for pickup orders. We do not send out drivers
- Replace your till. Orders show up in a browser next to whatever you already use
- Send text messages. Everything to your customers goes by email, and there is no SMS anywhere in the product
Still unsure whether it fits what you run? Ask us, or read the numbers behind it.
Ready when you are.
Sign up, add your food, share your link. Nothing to pay, and nothing to cancel if you change your mind.
